I’m Emily!

As with many who arrive here, I was a student at UGA from 2013-2018. By no means do I consider myself a true local, yet, but I am grateful that my community here in Athens has expanded upon solely the student population. I’ve always had this idea in the back of my mind because I love stories. I love hearing how people got to where they are now, and the intricacies involved with their journey of life. At times when I feel a lack of spirit with the pathway of my own life, I find inspiration in meeting and interacting with a vast array of people and personalities that land themselves here. Athens is a special place, there is no denying that. Some say there is a “townie type”. To me, an Athens Townie is someone who embodies what Athens is in its purest form - a welcoming, loving, albeit extremely unique city. It is a place where folks from Normaltown, Rocksprings, 5 points, Boulevard, Chicopee Dudley, and East Side all congregate together to work towards creating a community of inclusivity and a home for all of the misfits that find themselves thriving in this small, southern town. Together, all of these people become a community that draws you in, one coffee, one beer, one bicycle ride, one show, one protest at a time.

I created this platform with the desire to dig deep into the roots that allow this community to flourish. I hope with every conversation and every story that I am lucky enough to share, readers will discover or expand upon an ever evolving appreciation for this small town.

P.S. Through this project I have found a love for photography and I’m always looking for opportunities to learn & shoot. Please reach out if you have any photographic needs!
