Hello All!

Welcome to The Local Athenian - a space where all are welcome, stories are shared, and a community is brought together, one photo at a time.

For most people outside the Athens bubble, including college students, it will very simply remain “a college town”. Most make an entrance in their late teens and after four memorable years traipsing through campus, chanting in Sanford Stadium, or sharing a drink (or 5) at one of the plethora of bars on E. Clayton, they make their eager exit. However, a select few stick around for the long haul and are welcomed into a unique and special community that exists outside of the proclaimed Arch. 

The Local Athenian aims to seek out and bring to light some of the most eclectic and special folks that exist here in Athens, Georgia. Out of all the places on earth, they have committed their lives to this place, to make it home, and to be a part of an ever evolving community that the Classic City has to offer. 

My hope is that this online platform will showcase what this city has to offer on a level that goes beyond just “The University of Georgia”. While students certainly play an imperative role in helping our community thrive in many ways, I yearn to interact with those who have helped shape this city from all walks of life. From the the service industry, the athletic community, the creative and artistic niche, the musicians, and beyond, I want to hear how Athens has molded the life you live today. 

The Local Athenian will bring forth an open dialogue between myself and you, the townie. Together we will meander through your story and what role Athens has played in your journey. One photo at a time, the masterpiece that is Athens, Georgia will come to fruition.
